Turning 30…

People usually say to go all out for your 30th birthday, so I did.

I went to a Naruto symphony. Naruto, the manga-anime of my teenage, the one that got me into drawings, writings, studying English better so that I could read ahead of time without using dictionary too much. The one that introduced me to the world of manga-anime.

The one that got me the long-standing group of friends that I could ask for.

The one that guided me back to be my passionate self whenever I felt like losing the grip.

My eyes were all teary when the Naruto playlist played in my car: Blue Bird, Go, Wind, Hoshi No Utsuwa, Silhouette,… I mumbled to the lyrics even though I didn’t understand a single Japanese word. It was all just muscle memories from 15 years ago.

I went to the Phoenix Fan Fusion this year, my second ComicCon after 15 years, with my husband. It was his first ComicCon ever. We took a picture with the cast of Lords of The Rings, we joined in their panels. We checked out all vendors in the convention. It was unfortunate that I couldn’t find any fan comics related to the series I like, but I settled with a beautiful art piece of my teenage heroes, Naruto’s official artbook, figurines, kunais and Sting. I’ll save those fan comics for the day I can go to San Diego’s ComicCon and Anime Expo. Or Japan.

Our legs were so sore after two days of walking constantly. But it was worth it! The things I couldn’t do for my teenage time, I am doing it, and will do it again.

My husband bought his first light saber ever when going to the convention with me. He, too, enjoyed things he couldn’t afford in the past.

Turning 30 this year, we are happy adults!

We’re healed.
